Signs Your Child is Mature Enough for Child Modeling

Many kids dream of strutting down cat walks, with flashing lights all around, clad in the latest avant-garde fashion. But, is your child ready to take their first step towards stardom? While as a parent you can sign your child up for modeling at just about any age, it can be tricky to decide when the time is right. That’s why we have created this guide to explain the key signs to look for when determining if your child is mature enough to join a children’s modeling agency. So, keep reading before you click send on your submission!

#1 They’re Doing Well in School

No matter your child’s age, school is always a priority. So, be sure that your child feels prepared to succeed in school before they switch things up. This is crucial because having a flexible schedule is key to success in the industry. Child models often have to be pulled out of school, sometimes without a lot of notice, in order to attend a casting or shoot. As a result, it is important that your child is able to adapt to different learning environments and catch up on school work on set when needed.

#2 They Have Close Friends

Child modeling can help little ones connect with new, like-minded kids their age. However, it is a great idea to make sure your child already has a few close friends before they start. Maintaining a social circle separate from modeling can help kids stay involved in other aspects of life that are important to them and stay connected to what they enjoy both with modeling and outside of their work in arts and entertainment!

#3 They’re Outgoing

The truth is, any job in the modeling or entertainment industry requires a lot of energy and communication. That often means talking to strangers. This can be really tough on shy, reserved kids. So, we recommend working on helping your little one come out of their shell in their day-to-day life, before pushing them out of their comfort zone with castings or time on set.

#4 They’re Confident

While being a child model can bring a lot of joyful experiences and boost confidence, it should not be seen as a way to help a child feel happier or raise their self-esteem. A central part of the job is enduring rejection and using it as a learning experience. So, make sure your child’s confidence and self-esteem are in a good place before they start. That way, they are prepared to handle rejection and don’t focus their worth on being chosen for jobs.

#5 They’re Interested!

One of the most important signs that your child is mature enough to become a child model is if they ask for it! If they are interested but need to be persuaded, they might not truly be ready. Modeling takes discipline and dedication, so it is crucial that they see it as fun, exciting, and worth the hard work. Take notice of whether your child is already showing passion and dedication – maybe you observe them asking to have their picture taken, trying to take pictures of others, or getting excited about fashion!

At Bensimon Models and Talent, we believe that child model readiness is all about living a healthy, well-adjusted life, and of course, letting kids be kids! These important traits can be very helpful in contributing to your child’s fun, excitement, and imagination as a model. As a parent, you know your little one best. So, if you think they are ready, and they show these signs, we suggest giving it a try! Before you sign with a children’s modeling agency, be sure to select an agent that understands your concerns and makes sure that you and your child are always in control of your own journey.
